Zender’s Restaurant and Bar, Publika

12 Nov

A couple of weeks ago was our first wedding anniversary and the husband and I thought of having lunch at Zender’s but it was fully-booked, but the day finally came when we got to try out a simple casual lunch.

Being unfamiliar with Publika, it took us some time to actually find the place. On our way there, we overheard others in a similar predicament reading out loud block names and such.

They had a nice outdoor area furnished with plush armchairs and sofas.

The decor inside had a similar feel, with the grey and white furniture along with wooden shelves and floors.

I quite like this big wooden-framed mirror.

Time for the food! This was their carrot soup. With the right consistency and not overly thick, it was served with a touch of cream and freshly-ground black pepper. It was a flavourful and delicious start to the meal.

I opted for the fish and chips. Deep-fried dory served on a bed of chips, with homemade tartar sauce and garlic butter rice on the side. The rice was a tad dry but quite tasty, and the fish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Quite well done. The salad leaves that accompanied the dish was a bit sad though. Wished it was more generous.

Hubby chose the leg of lamb. Served with some vegetables, herbed mash and lamb jus. The mash was delicious with just the right hint of creaminess. The lamb was not bad, and hubby was happy with the portion.

Dessert was a chocolate cheesecake (I think). The fluffy chocolate mousse sat on a soft Oreo cookie base with a dollop of whipped cream on top. It was quite rich, and was just the right portion to end the meal.

Overall quite a nice place to dine. Might come back some time if I come by here again. Check them out at their website or Facebook page or visit them at:

Banana J Foodstation

15 Aug

Hubby and I first came across Banana J Foodstation a few weeks ago when we were passing by these two rows of shops in Section 17, Petaling Jaya. We decided to check it out and bought their mango bread for a gathering that night. It was an interesting version of the banana bread and we decided to visit again to try their other offerings.

This time, we dropped by for lunch.

Simple, kitchen-inspired decor.

Some of their available cakes for the day. I was offered a sample of the Chocolate Bar which you can see at the top right corner of the picture. It consists of chocolate (dark, I believe), biscuit and marshmallow. It was delicious. Not too sweet, and at RM1.50 each, quite reasonable too.

For lunch, I ordered the spaghetti bolognese (which I had been craving) and hubby took the English Breakfast. The pasta sets come with a glass of iced lemon tea and a choice of spaghetti or fettucine. The English Breakfast comes with a choice of turkey ham, chicken ham and beef bacon. Hubby opted for the bacon.

Hubby was happy with the portion, especially the serving of bacon. I found my spaghetti satisfying. The sauce was quite chunky, although maybe could do with more ‘body’. Anyway, I was happy.

The waitress then served us two complimentary mini cupcakes.

The inside of the carrot and red velvet cupcakes. You can see the bits of carrot in the first. Quite moist and with a hint of cinnamon. The red velvet was quite chocolatey, although maybe a tad dry.

Banana J is having a promotion where you get a slice of cake of the day if your bill amounts to more than RM20.

We were served the chocolate cake. The shell on the outside was a bit hard so we flipped the cake on the side. I found the shell a bit sweet but loved the cake underneath.

All in all, I thought it was a satisfying meal which is good value for money at RM22.90.

On another note, we were at the Mayang Oasis foodcourt for dinner the previous day and guess what we saw?

double rainbow

A rainbow! A double rainbow actually. I take it as a sign of great things to come!
