Zender’s Restaurant and Bar, Publika

12 Nov

A couple of weeks ago was our first wedding anniversary and the husband and I thought of having lunch at Zender’s but it was fully-booked, but the day finally came when we got to try out a simple casual lunch.

Being unfamiliar with Publika, it took us some time to actually find the place. On our way there, we overheard others in a similar predicament reading out loud block names and such.

They had a nice outdoor area furnished with plush armchairs and sofas.

The decor inside had a similar feel, with the grey and white furniture along with wooden shelves and floors.

I quite like this big wooden-framed mirror.

Time for the food! This was their carrot soup. With the right consistency and not overly thick, it was served with a touch of cream and freshly-ground black pepper. It was a flavourful and delicious start to the meal.

I opted for the fish and chips. Deep-fried dory served on a bed of chips, with homemade tartar sauce and garlic butter rice on the side. The rice was a tad dry but quite tasty, and the fish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Quite well done. The salad leaves that accompanied the dish was a bit sad though. Wished it was more generous.

Hubby chose the leg of lamb. Served with some vegetables, herbed mash and lamb jus. The mash was delicious with just the right hint of creaminess. The lamb was not bad, and hubby was happy with the portion.

Dessert was a chocolate cheesecake (I think). The fluffy chocolate mousse sat on a soft Oreo cookie base with a dollop of whipped cream on top. It was quite rich, and was just the right portion to end the meal.

Overall quite a nice place to dine. Might come back some time if I come by here again. Check them out at their website or Facebook page or visit them at:

Interesting decor and that has to be the first time I’ve ever seen fish & chips served with a rice side! Servings seem a little small and you’re right, that salad with your fish is really more of a garnish lol.
Congrats on your first anniversary and here’s to many more – gosh, you look so young, Serene, so it’s hard to think you’re married.

Hi Shopgirl! The servings may seem small but they really filled me up although I wished the salad was bigger. Thanks for your wishes and hope to meet you soon. I saw the Hamley’s invite when it came up and was tempted to respond but I couldn’t make it anyway so too bad. Glad you had a great time there. 🙂

Nah, I just eat a lot 😀 I should have joined the Butterfly Bloggers 1-Utama food crawl.
Oh, I hope to meet you soon too. Are you the Serene that won The Lilac Box prize for your Gravity= ‘Defy’ answer in the Talika giveaway? I was like, that’s the best answer ever! Wish I had come up with that but it couldn’t have gone to a better person.

Wow, you noticed! I really didn’t expect to win with so many interesting entries. Which one were you? :p

My answer was pretty sad compared to yours. I can’t even remember it but it was something about weight lol. You deserved to win! It was a stroke of gravity defying genius 😉
