Bag of Love September – Travel theme!

27 Sep

Sometime in March this year, a friend of mine in the know asked me, “Have you heard of Bag of Love?”. I hadn’t, and decided to look it up. It was interesting, but I didn’t feel that I should splurge on another beauty box/bag. Fast forward 5 months, I realised how much I would have liked their debut and April bags. Anyway, it’s never too late.

For September, it’s a travel themed bag. The bag itself is a transparent, airmail envelope inspired one, which I already know what I want to use for.Image

The goodies! The welcome note and information card featured a very cute Mimi in a pilot’s uniform. I like all their illustrations! So for this month, a few lucky subscribers would find an extra item in their bag — A CK Euphoria 15ml miniature. Looking at the picture, you’d have concluded that I’m not one of them, but that’s all right. Let’s see what else we have:

Image

O’slee Rosehip Beauty Solution Advanced Formula III (60ml). What a nice size! I’ve never tried O’slee products, but I did use rosehip oil years ago because of its moisturising properties as well as effective treatment of scars and stretchmarks. Let’s see how this one fares. I already like the light rose scent.

Image

Swiss line Force Vitale Aqua Vitale Cream (10ml). Another brand I haven’t tried although I hear rave reviews about their products. Eager to try this one as well!

Image

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Shimmer Multi-Purpose Dry Oil (10ml). Yay! I’m using my dry oil sparingly and it’s such a nice surprise to try the shimmer version. For about a minute I was tipping the bottle over and over looking at the shimmery oil flowing down like liquid gold, and the tiny bubbles making a trail as they rise through the oil to the surface. Oooo.. well, enough of that.

Image

Calvin Klein Eternity Aqua Woman EDP (6ml). This rollerball is different from the usual vials we receive and a welcomed change. It looks really classy and much easier to handle. Popular scent too.

Image

RVB Skinlab Diego Dalla Palma Cell Detoxium Purifying Clay Mask (10ml). “Intensive care thanks to the presence of ventilated green clay with detoxifying and remineralizing action. Thanks to the presence of puri-enzyme, an enzyme complex with an exfoliating and moisturizing effect, it removes impurities in a few minutes and gently refines skin texture, restoring brightness, firmness and softness all in one.” I’m trying this today.

Image

Olay Regenerist Serum (10ml).

And there you have it. It’s a good set of products to care for your skin whether your travels bring you to dry weather, sunny places or walking through crowded markets for street food.

Let’s look at the value:

1) O’slee Rosehip Beauty Solution Advanced Formula III – RM59.90/100ml |RM35.90/60ml

2) Swiss line Force Vitale Aqua Vitale Cream – RM368/50ml |RM73.60/10ml

3) Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Shimmer Multi-Purpose Dry Oil – RM198/100ml |RM19.80/10ml

4) Calvin Klein Eternity Aqua Woman EDP 6ml – RM49

5) RVB Skinlab Diego Dalla Palma Cell Detoxium Purifying Clay Mask – RM29.90

6) Olay Regenerist Serum – RM49.90/50ml |RM10/10ml

which brings the total value to RM218.20! How’s that for value? Do check out their website and Facebook page for updates and mini contests!

Penang One, Kota Damansara

23 Sep

While almost everywhere in Malaysia is famous for some food or other, Penang food is one of the most recognisable. After tasting the delicious food in Penang, people hunt for the same stuff where they live or work elsewhere in Malaysia. Often, you have Penangites saying the food offered elsewhere is not authentic enough or doesn’t taste the same.

This is a gap which Penang One hopes to bridge. Bringing food made by the original stall owners in various famous shops in Penang here to the Klang Valley, it allows people to enjoy authentic Penang delicacies without having to travel all the way.

Penang One front

We tried the branch in Kota Damansara although they have another outlet in Bandar Puteri Puchong.

Penang One wall

The wall shows the original stall owners where the food is from and which part of Penang they are located in. The shop is decorated with faux road signs where the stalls or shops are.

Penang One

The open kitchen lets diners see what’s going on. Some of the items on the menu include Ais Kacang from Lorong Swatow, Chee Cheong Fun from Macalister Lane, Kampung Jawa Char Kuey Teow and most recently, Kuey Teow Thng from the Pulau Tikus market.

Penang One curry mee

Clockwise from the top is Special curry mee from Keong Curry Mee (RM8.50) on Jalan Burma, guleng peng (RM3.80), curry mee again, assam laksa from Lorong Selamat (RM8.50) and ice-blended lemon tea (RM5.80). The curry mee is filled with ingredients like prawns, cuttlefish, bean curd skin and pork blood. My sister doesn’t eat pork blood but ordered it anyway and left that part out. While I don’t remember how it compares to the original (it was some time ago), I’d say it’s quite similar.

Penang One laksa

I also enjoyed my assam laksa with the chunky soup and generous fish slices, with the right amount of sour and spicy. Needless to say, I finished every drop of soup.

Now I have heard varying opinions on this. All from local Penang people. Some friends say it’s not as good as they claim, some say it’s pretty much authentic. I think that on the island itself there are many variations of the dish so it’s hard to say what is the original version. It’s pretty good, methinks, although I do wonder how they replicate something like char kuey teow since it’s not just a matter of assembling the ingredients, no? Anyway, if you’d like to check them out, they’re at:

My Vanity Trove

23 Sep

Hello! How was your week? Hope everyone got a good break from the long weekend.

Ok, so I’m not a particularly adventurous person. Once I find something works, I tend to stick with it. So it has taken me this long to try Vanity Trove. Most of you would have heard of Vanity Trove, a beauty box service which started in Singapore and came to our shores early this year. Their boxes began with the surprise element where subscribers don’t know what is featured in their boxes until they received them. Vanity Trove has since revamped their model to one where we get to choose the samples we want to try. There are pros for both of course. If it’s a surprise, you get to try items you may not have heard of before or even thought you wouldn’t like, but might. This may be useful for people (like me) who don’t usually grab the next new thing to try. On the other hand, picking samples you’re interested in gives a higher chance of you enjoying the item since you would have already done some research on it. Well then, let’s see what I got.

I’ve been eyeing the pretty drawer box even though I’ve not subscribed before this.

Yay!

Discount voucher and information brochures from Skin Lab and Decleor

Image

Tilley goat’s milk soap. This is the first time I’m trying this. Have only recently heard about it and the good reviews. Apparently it’s very moisturising and gentle.

Image

Pure South fresh goat’s milk body lotion (50ml). Both Tilley and Pure South are carried by TSN Skin Lab, which specialises in natural and organic personal and beauty care products. I personally like green products and it reflects in some of the items chosen for this box.

Image

Cocolab Aromatic Body Oil (5ml). Virgin coconut oil blended with essential oils. What a yummy, refreshing scent! It quickly absorbs into the skin without any oily feeling. Not to mention it’s virgin coconut oil (VCO) which has a long list of benefits. I’m already using VCO for my hair as well as having it with toast (yummy and aromatic) and encourage you to look it up!

Image

L’Oréal Professionnel Liss Ultime shampoo (100ml) and hair mask (75ml). A good product that leaves my hair nice and smooth. I mentioned this in this post.

Image

Decleor Hydra Floral ‘flower nectar’ moisturising cream (15ml). Since I like Decleor so much, I grabbed this while I could. I love the smell, it’s mostly botanically derived and very light.

So that’s my trove. Depending on your membership plan, you might be able to pick up to 8 samples with up to 15% bonus credits.

Lilac Box 4 has got you covered head to toe

17 Sep

Hi ladies! I’ve been missing for awhile as I attended a life-changing conference where young people of like mind came together to reflect on how they can use their best years in service to others. I learnt a lot about the importance of youth and our role in ensuring the future generation are able to navigate the forces of society.

Anyway, once I arrived back home I found a package waiting for me. Yup, the Lilac Box 4 has arrived.

Image

It came in the same black box as the Decleor Concept Box, tied up with a shimmery silver Jimmy Choo ribbon.

Image

The goodies!

Image

L’Oréal Professionnel Mademoiselle Infinium hairspray (100ml). This hairspray got an update on its packaging by celebrity hairstylist Charlie le Mindu sometime middle of last year. I rarely use hairspray so I’m not sure when I’ll be trying this out yet.

Image

L’Oréal Professionnel Liss Ultime shampoo (100ml) and hair mask (75ml).  I know, I know. It’s been doing its rounds in beauty boxes, but believe it or not, this is the first time I’m getting it! I have somehow not managed to get the other boxes they appeared in. It’s a good product. I like it enough to pick it for my first customised Vanity Trove.

Image

Sothys Hydradvance Light Hydrating Cream (15ml) and Hydra-nourishing Mask (15ml). I’ve seen Sothys salons around but never tried them, so this one I’m excited to try!

Image

Crabtree & Evelyn Tarocco Orange hand therapy (25g). Another favourite, which I also picked for my customised Modbox.

Image

OPI nail lacquer in the shade Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! from their Germany collection (15ml). This is a dark grey with a tinge of green. I was really happy we got OPI, although I can’t say I’m excited about the colour I got. It’s not something I would wear, really. If only I got Just Spotted the Lizard or Into the Night (which happened to by my chosen shade for my post-wedding manicure) or any of those two-toned metallics (Metallics! Blues! ♥) . Ok moving on…

Image

Perfume vials of Jimmy Choo (2ml) and Flash (2ml). I like Flash. I get the white florals and strawberry, and maybe a bit of spice. Jimmy Choo is also quite pleasant. It’s more fruity, and sweet.

So there you have it. Here’s the rough value:

1) L’Oréal Professionnel Mademoiselle Infinium hairspray (RM40/300ml) | RM13.30/100ml

2) L’Oréal Professionnel Liss Ultime shampoo (RM50/250ml) | RM20/100ml

3) L’Oréal Professionnel Liss Ultime hair mask (RM67/200ml) | RM25/75ml

4) Sothys Hydradvance Light Hydrating Cream (RM370/50ml) | RM111/15ml

5) Sothys Hydradvance Hydra-nourishing Mask (RM272/50ml) | RM81.60/15ml

6) Crabtree & Evelyn Tarocco Orange hand therapy (25g) | RM35

7) OPI nail lacquer (full size) | RM63

8) Perfume vials of Jimmy Choo (2ml) and Flash (2ml)

This brings the total value of the box to more than RM348.90! For only RM49.90, that’s almost 7x the price you pay. If you’re interested to get your hands on their next box, go here for updates.
