Cleanse, tone, treat and moisturise with Avène

25 Jun

I was browsing through my blog when I noticed I missed out on this post which was supposed to be after my first Avène post. Oh well, better late than never.

So I’ve been using the said products for about four months now, and will be penning my thoughts on them.

Image

First up, Avène Cleanance Gel Soapless Cleanser. This range I’m using is for oily, blemish-prone skin. And usually, these products tend to dry the skin a bit, which this cleanser does for me as I have combination skin. But that’s where the Thermal Spring Water comes in. A spritz or two refreshes the skin and lessens tightness. The scent smells “clean”, although sometimes it gets a bit strong for my sensitive nostrils.

Image

Next, Cleanance Lotion-Toner. This one is all right. I felt that it left a thin film after I applied it. Maybe it’s just me.

Image

Cleanance K Cream-gel. This product claims to reduce blemishes and control oil secretion. It contains Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Salicylic Acid to exfoliate the skin as well as Thermal Spring Water to soothe and soften the skin. I applied this on spots and it does reduce the redness and swelling. A little goes a long way for this product and I quite like it.

Image

Cleanance Emulsion-Lotion. This goes well with the Cream-gel mentioned above. I like that it doesn’t make the skin feel greasy but doesn’t dry it out either.

As a whole, I think my experience with the Avène skincare routine has been quite pleasant. I especially like the Thermal Spring Water, Micellar lotion and the Cleanance K.

Have you tried Avène products? Which is your favourite?

How Kaw is Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw?

25 Jun

So the burger bakar craze had piqued my curiosity. We see people queuing for hours just to get their hands on the grilled burgers. Just how good are they?

I decided to visit the one at the Mayang Oasis food court in Petaling Jaya. We ordered the double beef baconizer which comes with two beef patties and beef bacon.

Image

It’s definitely not a burger you can just bite into, although I had imagined the patties to be bigger. Beef lovers would like the grilled smokey flavour of the patty. I also tried the double chicken turkeynizer at another time. Comes with two fried chicken breasts with turkey ham. Both have their own taste. Depends on whether you prefer fried or grilled.

We also ordered spaghetti bolognese from the stall next door.

Image

The first time I had this it was not as spicy and somehow more fulfilling. Or maybe I was just craving it at the time. I’d say not bad. The pasta was al dente which I don’t expect from food court stalls.

A rainbow with dinner! How lovely is that?

Restoran Nyonya Makko – Melaka

25 Jun

Hubby and I went to Melaka a few weeks ago to visit some friends and we took this opportunity to meet at one of my favourite Nyonya restaurants – Restauran Nyonya Makko in Taman Melaka Raya.

Image

It has been around since 1984 and I was introduced to it by a friend who was the classmate of the boss’ daughter. So these are what we ordered:

Image

Squid sambal (I think) in the foreground and kangkung sambal belacan behind it. The squid was quite spicy but both were not bad.

Image

Clockwise from the front: Cincalok omelette, steamed tofu, chicken pongteh. The steamed tofu was so-so but I like the omelette and pongteh. The omelette was a tad salty this time though.

Image

Fried otak-otak! I love otak-otak so I thought this time I’d try the fried version. Nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Image

Cendol in front, sago gula melaka at the back. What is a visit to Makko if you don’t order their shaved ice desserts? The cendol is one of my favourites because of the gula melaka that they use. I even bought a bag of the delicious palm sugar from them.

All in all, I’d highly recommend the place. Can be quite busy during peak hours so give them a call if you’re coming from far.

Wonderbox May Edition – A Pleasant Surprise

19 Jun

When I actually got to open my May Wonderbox, I was a bit worried because of some subscribers who were not happy with theirs. I needn’t have to worry because I like almost everything in there!

Image

Product information card and a RM50 discount voucher at Senze Studio

Image

This was the first thing I saw when I opened the box. I let out an audible “Oo..”. Neutrogena Hydro Boost night concentrate sleeping pack (full size 50g). I heard some good things about this so am looking forward to trying it.

Image

The next thing I saw, where I let out an audible “Oh!”. Bio-essence Radiant Youth Essence with ATP (full size 20ml). I was very happy to see this because I really like it. The gel absorbs into the skin leaving it powdery soft.

Image

Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel (8ml + 5g sachet) and Green Tea Ultimate Sun Shield SPF56 PA++ (3g). Marvel Gel has been around for a long time, and not surprisingly because it works. If you don’t like exfoliating with rough beads or harsh chemicals, then this might just suit you.

Image

Le Scenteur Whitening Hand & Body Lotion (70g) and Sensation EDT sample. “Enriched with Olive Oil and Licorice extract, helps to restore skin’s natural moisture balance and lighten skin”. I’m not crazy about whitening products because I don’t believe fair equals beautiful. However, moisture is important so I suppose it can go in the travel bag.

Image

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter (48g). This creamy body butter has a hint of Satsuma so it’s not overpoweringly citrusy, although I don’t mind citrusy. Good size to bring around.

And that’s it! So here’s the summary:

1. Neutrogena Hydro Boost night concentrate sleeping pack, 50g – RM58.60

2. Bio-essence Radiant Youth Essence with ATP, 20ml – RM45.90

3. Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel, 8+5ml (RM38/60ml) – RM8.20

4. Le Scenteur Whitening Hand & Body Lotion, 70g (RM11/250ml) – RM3.10

5. The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter, 48g – RM20

So that brings the total value to RM135.80. If you think that’s good value after paying only RM39.90 for the box, go here to discover your own beauty secrets at home.

Lilac Box 3 – A Weighty Affair

19 Jun

Hello ladies,

It’s been some time since my last post and I thought I’d better get on it before my posts start piling up even more. This is my third Lilac Box, which I also got mum (her first beauty box!). So this is what we received:

Image

Pretty lilac lace ribbon

Image

Quite a full and heavy box.

Image

First up, Payot Pate Grise and Speciale 5 (1ml each). I quite like this but wish there was more. It does dry up spots quickly.

Image

Phyto botanical hair relaxing balm (15ml). I love green, botanical products so I like this as well, plus my hair tends to get frizzy. I do like my natural waves though, so as long as it doesn’t straighten them out too much I’m happy.

Image

Max Factor Ageless Elixir foundation & serum (10ml). Well, I like the fact that they gave so many samples to make up for the sachets. The texture and coverage is good too. However, the shades are a tad too pink to match my skin tone. It also has this light fragrance which, while not overpowering, would have been better without.

Image

Babor HSR extra firming cream and eye cream. I’m quite excited to try this out. I like eye creams and so far you don’t see it much in beauty boxes.

Image

Yves Rocher Fresh Rose shower gel (200ml). Yay! Nice big bottle with a lovely scent. Very happy with this.

Image

And finally, See by Chloe (1.2ml). As I probably mentioned before, I’m not much of a fragrance person. This one is not bad though.

Here are the list of items and approximate value:

1. Payot Pate Grise and Speciale 5, 2ml (RM93/15ml) – RM12.40

2. Phyto phytodefrisant botanical hair relaxing balm, 15ml (RM90/100ml) – RM13.50

3. Max Factor Ageless Elixir foundation & serum, 10ml (RM78/30ml) – RM26

4. Babor HSR extra firming cream, 3ml (RM650/60ml) – RM32.50

5. Babor HSR extra firming eye cream, 3ml (RM490/30ml) – RM49

6. Yves Rocher Fresh Rose shower gel, 200ml – RM39

7. See by Chloe, 1.2ml

So the grand total is roughly RM172.40. If you like what you see, hop on over to The Lilac Box to find out more about Box 4.
